“Excellence is to do a common thing in an uncommon way.”
-Booker T. Washington
Lately I’ve been collecting tasks (and tasks and tasks…) to complete, most of which have to do with the four jobs that I am currently overseeing. In some ways, I see this as a compliment. I must be a trustworthy and competent person and I must do good work. With many of these tasks, I use to look to the person who gave me the task and wait for them to give me help or to tell me how to complete my task. It has taken me a couple of years to realize that the better way to go about completing a task is to do it your way.
Being in the Army, there are certain ways that people do things, and if you go outside of those boundaries, or think outside the box, it surprises people and makes them somewhat uncomfortable. But how can anyone argue or gripe when your solution is 100 times better than the old ways that everyone’s been doing it? Short answer: They won’t.
